Sometime between 1999 and 2001, members of the Guided by Voices mailing list, Postal Blowfish,
took on the challenge of re-recording every song that was released on Box in sequence. The Guided By Voices Box is a collection the
band's first four full-length albums released in 1987, 1989, and 1990
plus a disc of un-released cuts which were recorded in the time period between 1988 to 1993. The LP version also includes the landmark 5th album Propeller,
which was added to the tribute to satisfy protest from members of the community.
Why take on this monumental task? Many of the more "obsessive" Guided by Voices fans feel that this body of work
is under-appreciated. It was our goal to polish these gems until their luster was seen
by all. Yeah, ok, maybe not. Truth be told, we were all out of our minds and just got off on this
kind of thing. Plus, to us, the originals are already perfect. So just chock this project up to
a tremendous waste of time that took far too long to complete. It did come out well though, so you should check it out.
All the songs are available for download free of charge, and please feel free to share them with whoever you like. This project was never intended for profit by anyone,
and by downloading ANY of these tracks you agree to never repackage or otherwise attempt to profit from the sale of this material. The files are encoded at 192k VBR Normal Stereo.
There is also accompanying artwork for those of you who want to burn CD-Rs of this for yourself. To download, simply right-click on the file (ctrl-click for mac)
and select "save to disk" or whatever similar option your browser provides.
And, last but not least, I want to sincerely thank all the bands and artists for their dedication and patience with regard to this project. A big thanks
is also in order for the postal blowfish and Disarm the Settlers communities at large... and of course most of all to Robert Pollard and the various
members of Guided by Voices over the years for their inspiration. If it weren't for them, many of us would not be making music today.
Now enjoy!
